TSC Goes After School Principals
Accounts of a number of teachers have been suspended after Teachers Service Commission (TSC) audit report revealed funds misappropriation and mismanagement by some school principals.
In a reported published by Daily Nation on Sunday 21st February, the Teachers Service Commission was targeting 5 principals from Bomet county alone.
The commission stated that it was going further to investigate more school principals for allegation of doctoring financial books and looting from the Kenyan government.
The County Teachers Service Commission (TSC) boss Charles Nyauma affirmed that the school principals in question will face disciplinary action for misusing the funds.

“The principals’ files have been taken to the commission for appropriate action,” stated Nyauma.
He further noted that cases of financial misuse and misappropriation among school principals had been on the rise and that the principals’ accounts were suspended.
“The bank accounts of such principals have been flagged by auditors,” Nyauma added.
The purge comes just weeks after some school principals came out publicly and claimed that some auditors had been soliciting for bribes to help them clean their books. Specifically the principals claimed that the auditors were asking for Ksh. 10,000.

A proposal by the ministry of education that was issued early February proposed that school heads should be removed from the role of managing school.
In its place, the ministry want special people to be employed and posted in public schools to handle the management task.
The proposal however was not well received by Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers [KUPPET] who want the role of management to be entirely handled by school head.
KUPPET wants the Education Ministry to instead establish a policy for them to hire specialized professionals such as accountants, psychologists and sports coaches.

However, KUPPET is advocating for audit on Principals to ensure transparency and accountability of school funds.
