Social Media Post Costs Pauline Njoroge Lucrative Government Job
- Her revocation came just a day after her appointment as a board member of Tourism Regulatory Authority, Najib Balala decided to revoke her appointment after it was brought to light that she had termed Nairobi National Park as “Useless”.
They say social media never forgets, well, that is a saying that Pauline Njoroge now knows too well after her appointment as Tourism Regulatory Authority Board member was revoked by Tourism CS Najib Balala.
Her revocation came just a day after her appointment as a board member of Tourism Regulatory Authority, Najib Balala decided to revoke her appointment after it was brought to light that she had termed Nairobi National Park as “Useless”.
Netizens were alert and soon after the announcement of her appointment was made, a post resurfaced in which she had termed Nairobi National Park as useless. Kenyans wondered why she was appointed to the Tourism Regulatory Authority Board despite of her previous comment.
Tourism CS Najib Balala said he had not known that she had posted negative statements on social media about the Nairobi National Park.
Balala thanked Kenyans on social media for bringing her posts to his attention saying it highlighted what they missed when doing a background check on her.
Her post that was traced back to 2019 has come to haunt her as Tourism CS Najib Balala says they do not want to be associated with people with such thinking.
The purported post that was going round read, “By the way, how much revenue does the Nairobi National Park bring to this country. Isn’t there much more that can be done with it that can add more value? The only selling point of that park is that ‘It’s the only national park in a capital city in the world’ beyond that glamorous title, that else does it offer? The orphanage and the nature walk make economic sense…But the park? It does not make sense that in a congested city like Nairobi we can afford to have acres and acres of land in the name of a park when the is literally bursting at the seems with people…We even have to hold discussions on rerouting the SGR so as to have a park that is economically redundant!”
While announcing the revocation of her appointment, Balala said,
“I am revoking Pauline Njoroge’s appointment as a board member of the Tourism Regulatory Authority because we have just seen what she had tweeted in the past that Nairobi National Park was useless. We do not want to be associated with such people and such thinking,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
