Senior police officer charged with stealing cash bail money

Handling cash money is quite tempting and this has landed a senior police officer at Isiolo Police Station in trouble after he allegedly stole cash bail money.
The matter was brought to light after Fredrick Moses Odhiambo failed to account for a cash bail of Sh148,000 cash money during his handover after being transferred to Garissa County.
“During the handing over to the incoming OCS on November 6, 2020,  Fredirck Odhiambo could not account for cash bail money amounting to Sh148,000 deposited by accused persons released from cells to attend court on different dates as per cash bail receipts books serial no.0344901 to 0344950 and serial no.1330751 to 1330800,” the report filed at Isiolo police station read in part.
When asked about the cash, Odhiambo is said to have walked away from the station without completing the handover to the incoming OCS.

His actions prompted police officers to search for him whereupon they discovered that the OCS never even reported to his new station in Garissa County.
The officer went missing and he was presumed to have deserted duty.
However, on Wednesday 30th December, Odhiambo was napped by members of the public at Maili Nane area within Buuri Sub County in Meru County.
He was then taken to custody and he is to be arraigned in court today 31st December.
