President William Ruto Demands Accelerated Completion of Bukhungu Stadium Renovation
President William Ruto has expressed his dissatisfaction with the pace at which the renovation of the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County is progressing, stressing that the facility’s facelift must be completed by mid-2026.
During a tour of the 30,000-seater stadium, President Ruto noted that the renovations, aimed at transforming the stadium into a world-class sports facility, are lagging behind schedule and must be expedited. The renovation project, which began with much anticipation, is a key part of the government’s efforts to enhance sporting infrastructure in Kenya.
“The pace at which this stadium is being renovated is unacceptable. We cannot afford delays in completing this critical project, which is of great importance to the people of Kakamega and the nation,” President Ruto said during his visit.
The President has directed the Ministries of Sports and Public Works to closely monitor the progress of the renovation and ensure that the stadium is ready for use by mid-2026, in line with the government’s commitment to improving sporting infrastructure across the country.
In the past, Bukhungu Stadium had been a center for various sporting events and community activities. Once completed, it is expected to host major local and international events, providing a boost to the region’s economy and sports development.
“I expect that the ministries will not only review the progress made so far but will also take immediate action to ensure that contractors are adhering to the agreed timelines. This project is not just about infrastructure; it is about creating opportunities for our youth and fostering national pride,” the President emphasized.
President Ruto reiterated that the government is committed to improving sports facilities nationwide and that Bukhungu Stadium will be a model for other such projects in the future.
The government will continue to monitor the project’s progress closely to ensure that it meets the set deadline, with the promise of supporting the necessary resources and interventions for its successful completion.
The renovation of Bukhungu Stadium is part of a broader effort to enhance sports infrastructure across the country, aiming to develop local talent and boost Kenya’s profile on the global sports stage. Read More
