Moisbridge MCA Calls for Expansion of Maili Tisa-Kitale Highway Following Fatal Accident
By Wasike Elvis Moisbridge Ward MCA Patrick Kimeli has called on President William Ruto and the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) to urgently consider expanding the busy Maili Tisa to Kitale Highway. Kimeli’s appeal follows a deadly road accident at Chemoset along the Eldoret-Kitale road that claimed 10 lives, underscoring the need for improved infrastructure to curb the rising number of fatalities. In his statement, Kimeli highlighted the growing concern over road accidents along the highway, which has become a major route for both passengers and freight. He emphasized that expanding the highway would significantly enhance safety, reduce accidents, and ease congestion on the busy road.“This highway is crucial for the region, and its current state is not only a bottleneck but a growing danger to road users. Expanding it will help prevent further tragedies and ensure safer passage for everyone,” Kimeli said. The MCA also conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in the tragic accident that occurred earlier this week. The victims, traveling along the Eldoret-Kitale road, were killed when their vehicle collided with another. Several others were reported to have sustained injuries and are receiving treatment in local hospitals.”I want to send my message of condolences to the family and friends of those who were involved in this tragic road accident at Chemoset. This is an unbearable loss, and my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time of mourning,” said Kimeli. The incident has reignited calls for urgent intervention by authorities to improve road safety measures, with local leaders and residents rallying behind Kimeli’s plea for the expansion of the highway. With traffic on the road expected to increase further, especially as the region continues to grow economically, the MCA’s proposal has found broad support in the area.As investigations into the Chemoset accident continue, Kimeli’s appeal serves as a stark reminder of the pressing need for infrastructure development to prevent more fatalities on one of the country’s key highways.
