Moi University is a fully chartered public higher learning institution. The University is located in Eldoret at Kesses, 35 kilometers from Eldoret Town, and 310 kilometers Northwest of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. Moi University was established in 1984 by an Act of Parliament (Moi University Act, 1984) as the second public university in Kenya.

The Eldoret Town campus hosts the College of Health Sciences (near MTRH) and School of Law (at Annex), School of Tourism, Hospitality & Events Management (at Annex), School of Business & Economics (at Annex).

The university offers both undergraduate and post graduate courses. All the course offered at the university are accredited by the Kenya University and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS.

Moi University offers both Certificate, Diploma, Higher Diploma, Degree, Masters and PhD programs in various fields. Most university degree courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. However, diploma courses at the university take an average of 3 years. The university has E-learning courses that allows students to learn online. In total, the university offers over 100 programs.

Moi University ultra-modern main Campus is located in Eldoret at Kesses, 35 kilometers from Eldoret Town, and 310 kilometers Northwest of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya.

The university has four campuses namely; Main Campus, Eldoret Town campus, Nairobi Campus and Coast Campus. Currently Moi University has one constituent University College namely Bomet University College (BUC). Recently, the University restructured and now has 14 Schools, 3 Directorates, 4 Institutes and 3 Centres of Excellence.

Moi University Intake and Admission Requirements

Applicants admitted to Moi University must meet the following general minimum entry requirements in addition to specific subject requirements for each programme.

To get admission to the university, one must meet the following qualifications for various programs;

Undergraduate Programmes

Minimum mean grade of C+ at KCSE

OR

2 principals and 1 subsidiary pass at “A” level

OR

A Diploma in a relevant field of study from a recognized institution.

In addition, applicants must meet the specific subject requirements for each programme

 

Certificate Programmes

Minimum mean grade of a D+ at KCSE or equivalent

 

Diploma Programmes

1 year Diploma programmes require a minimum mean grade of C plain at KCSE

2 year Diploma programmes require a minimum mean grade of C- (minus) at KCSE

3 year Diploma programmes (Diploma in Primary Education /Diploma in Secondary Education) require a minimum mean grade of C+ at KCSE

In addition, applicants must meet the specific subject requirements for each programme

Masters Programmes

Bachelors Degree, Second Class (Upper Division) in a relevant field of study or its equivalent from a recognized University

OR

Bachelors Degree, Second class Honors (Lower Division), with at least two years post qualification work experience

OR

Bachelors Degree with a Pass and a Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant field of study.

PhD Programmes

Masters degree in a relevant field of study, from a recognized University.

Admission at Moi University happens each year. The main intake usually happens in September. The university carries out intakes in the months of January and May as well.

How To apply for Admission at Moi University

To apply or register for a programme, you are required to attach the following documents:

  1. Passport photo – a clear passport sized photo is required
  2. Scanned National ID – Applys to only Kenyan applicants who are above 18 years of age.
  3. Scanned Passport – applys to Non-Kenyan applicants
  4. Academic certificates – at least 2 academic certificates are required. Example KCPE & KCSE certificates.
