Martha Karua Furious On Looting Of Covid-19 Funds

With the recent emergence of Covid-19 related corrupt cases, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua broke the silence asking the government to reveal the culprits. While addressing the media on Monday, 10th August 2020, Martha Karua demands clarity on the expenditure of the Covid-19 associated funds from the national government. She further asked the government to produce the list of beneficiaries of loans and grants both locally and internationally.
The scandals related to the Covid-19 funds are on the rise as the Director and Criminal Investigations, and the Ethics and Anti-corruption offices have turned a blind eye to the issue.
Martha Karua terms the government incapable of doing what it is supposed to do to its citizens during the hard times. She also demands the government to publish the Covid-19 related funds’ beneficiaries and investigate any person involved in the massive corrupt deals that are on gong in the Afya house.
“We demand disclosure, transparency, and accountability to all COVID-19 related funds resources and equipment from all sources including loans, grants, donations, and in-kind support both locally and internationally,” Karua said.
The massive corruption revealed by the health sector, including the recent donation of the personal protective gear from Alibaba foundations. The concerns have been raised from different political divides claiming that the government is not playing its role to safeguard its citizens’ health.
The recent corrupt dealings in the health sector involved acquisition of personal protective gear to be used by health workers, which cost billions donated to the country.

She also talked on the corruption deal of 2016 on ‘Mafya House’ of 5 billion. Despite the government’s promise to deal with the culprits, it went silent. The case was left pending, and there is no progress on the issue to date.

According to parents the ministry of education has left them in a state of confusion with the continuous update that does not show any hope for re-opening soon. They claim that the education sector should bring out an amicable solution for the children’s future.
Martha Karua also weighed in on the education sector and claimed that there is a failure in the education sector and that decisions are made without consultations. Furthermore, Karua noted that parents and children are to be given confidence in their education’s future.
On Business
Since 15th March 2020, most small and medium businesses faced a lot of downfall in their income due to the spread of Covid-19. In her statement, Karua points out that the government should support small and medium enterprises through money transfer that are traceable. She condemned the issue of making it for politically known persons.
