Makerere University Under Fire
The Makerere University has suffered a big loss after a section of the university caught fire on Sunday.
Known as the “Ivory Tower” the overnight blaze left distinctive white wall darkened by smoke.
Two suspects have since been arrested following the incident and are helping Ugandan Authorities to establish the cause of the fire. This is following the investigations that were launched by the Ugandan Police.
The fire reportedly destroyed part of the administration block causing massive destruction
“It is a very dark morning for Makerere University. Our iconic Main Administration Building caught fire and the destruction is unbelievable. But we are determined to restore the building to its historic state in the shortest time possible,” Makerere University Vice- Chancellor Barnabas Nawangwe Stated.
Fire fighters had a tough task trying to put out the fire from around midnight. By Sunday afternoon, most of it had been put out though smoke could be seen coming from the ravages.
Makerere University has for long stood out as the Africa’s most prestigious University. The university has produced exemplary scholars and leaders from around Africa among them presidents.
