Kindiki Warns Gachagua and Allies Over Incitement, Calls for Respect in Leadership
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has issued a stern warning to his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, and his allies, accusing them of inciting Kenyans against the government. Speaking at Kamumu Full Gospel Church in Mbeere, Embu County, Kindiki, without naming Gachagua directly, emphasized that the government would not tolerate any actions that disrupt the peace or sow division among Kenyans.
“Leadership is about offering solutions, not bragging or spreading falsehoods,” Kindiki stated. He criticized Gachagua for alleging that the government had not delivered any development projects, pointing out that mere complaints without solutions would not be accepted.
Kindiki also called for respect among leaders, highlighting his own successful tenure as Interior Cabinet Secretary where he tackled banditry despite criticism. “I am not a coward, and I will not allow disrespect,” he added.
The tensions between the two leaders escalated further when Gachagua, speaking in Nyeri, accused the government of deploying former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga to sway Mt Kenya residents in favor of the government. Gachagua also criticized the government’s intolerance to criticism, drawing comparisons to the dictatorship of the late President Daniel arap Moi.
In response, Kindiki condemned Gachagua’s attacks on MPs from Mt Kenya, urging leaders to address disagreements civilly and avoid inciting violence. “We will not allow any disruption in political meetings,” he warned.
The escalating war of words underscores the deepening rift within the ruling coalition, with Kindiki urging unity in the Mt Kenya region and rejecting any attempts to divide it. Read More
