Kenya publishers Association establish availability of CBC text books

More than eighty (80%) of grade 9 textbooks have already been delivered to schools, and the remaining will be in schools by 13th January 2025, Kenya publishers Association Chairman Mr. Kiarie Kamua has confirmed adding that CBC textbooks for grade 9 learners are in the final stages of distribution to all public schools in the country in line with the government policy of buying core textbooks. These textbooks are being distributed by the publishers indicated against each learning areas including Maths, English, Agriculture,Kiswahili, Social studies, creative arts, integrated science, pre-technical studies, CRE and IRE.However, according to the recommendations of the Presidential Working Party on education reforms, the Kenya Institute of curriculum development (KICD) did rationalisation of some learning areas and upon this rationalisation, Kenya institute of development, developed and issued revised curriculum designs. The institute further advised publishers to develope and release rationalised books in home science and agriculture merged into agriculture, integrated science and health education merged into integrated science, social studies and life skills merged into social studies computer science, business studies and pre-technical studies merged into pre-technical studies, and visual arts, performing arts, physical education and sports merged into creative arts and sports.Speaking to journalists in Nairobi today, Mr. Kiarie Kamua, Chairman Kenya Publishers Association said publishers developed the books, submitted them to the Kenya institute of curriculum development for evaluation and the approved books are currently undergoing final corrections by the Kenya Institute of curriculum development with a view to release them on the market by the end of January 2025 for grades 5 and 6 and by the end of February 2025 for grades 7 and 8.”Materials produced before the rationalisation process, still meet the needs of learners and teachers in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8, as the country transitions to the updated and rationalised curriculum support materials, as per the recommendations of the Presidential working party on education reforms,” Mr. Kiarie said in addition Kenya Publishers Association is happy to inform the public that Kenya institute of curriculum development has approved a variety of books for grade 9 and other learning areas from more than fifteen publidhes.Mr. Kiarie also said Kenya Publishers Association wishes to assure Kenyans that books in all other areas that support lifelong learning are available in bookshops such as storybooks for children, novellas for junior school as well as fiction targeting senior school among others are arable in bookshops.
