The Garissa University is located in Garissa town. The University was established as a constituent college of Moi University on 12th August, 2011 through Legal Notice No. 116, the Moi University Act (Cap. 210A), and the Garissa University College Order 2011. The University become a fully pledged public University on 23rd October, 2017 and the first of its kind in the North-Eastern Region.

To undertake any degree course at Garissa University, one is required to have attained a KCSE mean grade of C+ and above with C+ English or Kiswahili. You will also need to have attained at least C+ in subjects related to your field of studies. Certificate and Diploma courses have less qualification requirement by the university.
