Artists Producing Dirty Content In The name Of Creativity Face Prosecution

KFCB CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua is a man on a mission to make sure that children are protected from exposure to harmful content. The no none sense CEO has cracked the whip and several artists who have produced content deemed unclean are facing the full wrath of the law.
Dr. Mutua  revealed that KFCB is in the process of working with artists and other relevant stakeholders in a bid to change the narrative that content must have vulgar language or sexual innuendos to sell.
While acknowledging that creating a safe space for the protection of children is a collective responsibility, Dr. Mutua called upon parents, guardians, and the society as a whole to remain vigilant and monitor the kind of content their children consume on various media platforms.

“KFCB has sought the support of Communication Authority, Google, Kenya Police, DCI and Cyber Security experts amongst others to ensure we protect children against exposure to harmful film and media content and populate our social media with clean and edifying content.” Dr Mutua stated in a statement released on 1^st of September.

The media Corp further revealed that as a Board, they committed to enforcing the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 and that they are working with artistes to change the narrative that content must have vulgar language or sexual innuendos to become popular.
Mutua further stated that several artists have been arraigned in court and they are facing charges over dirty content.
The first case was that of Ohangla artiste George Adinda alias Otieno Aloka who produced a vulgar Luo song titled: “Ochot Madhako”. The video contained derogatory language that demeaned women and advocated for paedophilia.
The artist was arrested recently for displaying audio-visual content contrary to Section 181 of the Penal Code, failure to obtain a filming license, distribution and exhibition of unclassified content contrary to the Films and Stage Plays Act CAP 222.
In another case four artists arrested include George Lio, Moses Osidiana, Raymond Kabagazi and Simon Mandela, who were consequently arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on 31″ August 2020 for plea taking before Senior Resident Magistrate Hon. Muthoni Njagi. The four were arrested following complain by the public over their son “NikoThirsty” Song they produced about a month ago.

The artistes were accused of displaying obscene audio-visual content, failure to obtain a filming license and distribution & exhibition of unclassified content contrary to the Films and Stage Plays Act and the Penal Code.
Mutua has also hit hard on mainstream media stations. On Tuesday, KFCB send a warning to all free-to-air radio and TV stations to desist from airing such content, as the board will take legal action against artists, producers and exhibitors of unrated content.
According to Dr. Mutua, by virtue of them being instrumental in shaping societal values, content creators must play a positive role in stemming the wave of moral decay by complying with the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222.
