Uber Expands Operations To Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret and Naivasha
You can now enjoy Uber services in towns of Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret and Naivasha. This is after Uber East Africa announced expansion of its services on 6th September.
Since its launch in Kenya, Uber has been operating in the Cities of Nairobi and Mombasa. This is great news for residents of the Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret and Naivasha who for long have been relying on alternative ride-hailing app service providers Like Wasili and Bolt.
The move came after a survey conducted by the firm revealed that riders did not know about all of Uber’s security features and were thus reluctant to use them.
The ride-hailing app has also invested in new safety features to protect its drivers and passengers.
The safety features of the app include Ride Check, which prompts a check from Uber if the trip stops for some period due to an unforeseen event. If both rider and driver are unresponsive, they will receive a call from Uber to make sure that everyone is OK.
We are committed to East Africa, a key contributor to the growth of our business in Sub-Saharan Africa. We are passionate about helping people travel and discover their city with ease and helping drivers increase earning opportunities, said Uber Head of East Africa Imran Manji.
The firm has expanded its offerings to customers in Nairobi by introducing two new products, Chap Chap Share and Uber XL. The latter will go into effect on September 19th.
Using Chap Chap Share, commuters can connect with others who are headed in the same direction and want to make a trip cheaper by sharing their rides.
This service can reduce the cost of your ride by up to 30 per cent, because if you are matched with another passenger going in a similar direction then it is only logical that sharing a cab results in lower fares.
Uber XL, meanwhile, is geared toward groups of up to 6 people who want to travel together. This service is ideal for groups of friends, families and coworkers who want to travel together at a lower cost. It is also useful for people on their way to an event or meeting that requires them to travel in large numbers. With Uber XL, you can expect the same high quality service as other Uber products without having to pay for the extra space.
In addition to that, Uber has introduced a feature called Audio Recording for trips so riders can have evidence in case there is an issue during the trip. For example, if they are harassed.
The driver and passengers cannot hear what is being recorded. Only Uber has access to those files and only if a problem with a ride needs to be investigated does it have permission to open them up. Uber is also working to make its drivers safer. It has launched a Safe Driving Challenge, which asks riders to report any dangerous behaviors they witness while in an Uber car.
