5 Police Officers Arrested For Stealing Alcohol They Were Guarding
It was a shock in Kisumu as Police officers who were tasked to guard alcohol worth Millions of shillings ended up getting away with the liquor.
The Five including the OCS of Boya Police Station in Nyando Sub-county, Kisumu, spent Monday night in the cells after they were arrested for stealing alcohol from an accident scene.
The incident report from the Nyando DCI office says the officers were caught taking bottles of vodka after a lorry was involved in an accident along Ahero-Awasi road near Boya market. However, there were no casualties in the accident.
The alcohol was later traced to their houses where several bottles of alcohol were found. A search that was conducted in the house of the chief inspectors home resulted in 72 bottles being recovered from his house.
The officers were accused to have collaborated with the members of the public in stealing the alcohol they were supposed to guard.

The Kisumu County Police Commander Ranson Lolmondong identified those arrested as OCS and Chief Inspector William Cheruiyot, Corporal Jane Chepkemei and police constables Bernard Macharia, Samuel Maina and Rodrick Laushuset.
He confirmed that the five were arrested by DCI detectives from Nyando before they were taken to Ahero Police Station.
The five pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains in custody as investigation is ongoing.
