TSC Requirements for Biometric registration of teachers
On the 17th of May 2021 TSC began the process of biometric enrollment and validation of teachers in 143 schools that they selected.
Biometric registration is a multi-agency exercise that involves different government agencies, and the pilot will guide the national roll-out.
The data required by TSC for verification includes the identification details of the teachers, letter of appointment, PWD certifications if any, and academic certificates that are run against preloaded data from the IPPD.
The process will involve capturing Teacher’s fingerprints,validation of personal employment data, and taking of passport size photo.
After the pilot exercise TSC plans to roll out the Biometrics registration of all teachers nationwide
The pilot stage which was launched in Nyeri Boys High School on 17th Monday morning, will see the Commission verify the distribution of teachers and their utilization in schools, validate the enrollment in public schools, establish areas of teaching specialization and authenticate teachers’ biodata alongside their employment records.
The biometric registration pilot proogramm will be contacted in 7 counties. The seven counties are; Uasin Gishu, Homa Bay, Bungoma, Nyeri, Kilifi, Kitui and Garissa.
The exercise will also play a key role in curbing exam teaching cases that involve teachers.

TSC listed requirements for teachers during the exercise that begins yesterday till the 21st of May 2021. Teachers are required to physically provide the documents below during the exercise.
- National Identification Card (ID)
- TSC Certificate of registration (TSC Number)
- Academic certificates
- Letter of the first appointment
- Letter of the last appointment

As of April 2021 figures, there were 224,075 primary school teachers in 22,821 public schools; 117,120 teachers in secondary schools in 9,043 public secondary schools and teacher training colleges; serving a learner population of 8, 071,662 in primary schools and 2,761,769 in public secondary schools and teacher training colleges.
