How to Check New Title Deed Number in Kenya

As of March 9^th 2021, the government of Kenya through the ministry of lands in collaboration with ICT Ministry released new title deeds numbers to the public. This is following the conversion of land parcels from the old land registry system to the new digitized platform.
The new digital method of checking and confirming your title deed details eg title deed number and title deed ownership can now be done digitally by Kenyans at any place through the online platform.
To be able to check and confirm your title deed number, there are various ways Kenyans can use to process the information.
According to the March 9^th issue of the MyGov, a free publication by the ministry of ICT, land owners are expected to access the information which is also available on the Ministry of lands website, where one can cross-check if the information and details on their land Title deed is correct.
“Any person with an interest in land within the registration unit who is aggrieved by the information in the conversion list or the cadastral maps are invited within the next 90 days from the date of publication of this notice,” landowners are advised.

Reasons for conversion of land

The objective of the conversion of land title deeds to the digital system is to collapse land registration processes in the repealed land registration laws into one. All titles issued under the repealed laws shall be cancelled and replaced with titles under the Land Registration Act, 2012.
This means that information on all land parcels in Kenya will be migrated to the new platform while at the same time retaining ownership, size and other interests registered against the respective title deeds.
The use of this Registry Index Maps (RIMs) is aimed at minimizing land frauds cases.

How to Access Your new Title Deed Numbers in Kenya

Land owners in Nairobi can now access and confirm their converted title deed numbers, the information is also being digitized and rolled out throughout the country
Here are various ways and steps to follow to access your new title deed number

1. Visit the mygov.go.ke website and click on the March 9, 2021, issue and browser through from page 15.  If you cannot get assistance through this method follow the below steps to access your Tittle Deed number
2. Visit the ministry of lands website lands.go.ke
3. Click on resource tab found on the drop drop down menu
4. Click on the media Centre and the News tab
5. Download all the four documents (Notice on Land Title Conversion Batch 1-4
6. Open the documents one at a time and locate your old title deed number
7. Confirm the details of your title deed among them names and acreage
