Ministry of Education introduces new rule for KCPE Candidates
The government through the ministry of education has introduced new rule that will require all KCPE candidate to chose days schools near their homes for the form one selection and placement.
In a circular dated 11th February, Education Permanent Secretary Belio Kipsang directed all primary school head teachers to ensure that KCPE candidates only chose day secondary schools near their homes.
In line with the directive, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) gave a two-week period to facilitate the changes before the exam.
KCPE exams is expected to begin in March and the candidates have to make choices of their preferred home day secondary schools between 15th February to 26th.
The PS stated that the Education ministry was keen to put an end to the practice where parents opted to admit their children in schools far from their homes.
“Kindly advise all schools presenting candidates for KCPE that the choice of the day schools will be based on the parents/guardians area of residence.
“In order to enable the ministry to place all learners to secondary schools centrally, candidates must revise their sub-county (day school) school choices,” the PS directed in circular date February 11.
In the new Competency-Based Curriculum taskforce formed by Education CS George Magoha, the CS is proposing the scraping of boarding schools.
The team proposes that only a few boarding schools should be allowed to admit learners across the country who pursue various paths in senior secondary. The task force has proposed the 2-6-3-3-3 education system.

The proposal comes weeks after the country experienced rampant cases of students razing down schools.
The minister of education had also proposed that students should undergo drug tests before they can be allowed in schools.
Through the ministry of Education, the CS directed that students from schools that had been burnt down should not be admitted to any other school. Magoha directed that parents of the affected schools school foot the bills for reconstruction of the schools before the students can be readmitted.
