14 arrested in Naivasha in a 1 acre bhang plantation
14 people were yesterday arrested in Naivasha by police in connection with bhang in a plantation valued at Sh.27 Million.
The 14 suspects were found weeding the over one acre farm of bhang at Kedong Ranch in Naivasha.
The raid was carried out yesterday by a multi agency team comprising of Anti Narcotics detectives, Administration Police Officers attached at Kedong field training Camp and OCPD Naivasha.
The plantation was then put under police surveillance and the bhang worth kSh.27 Million was destroyed.
Their arrest followed a tip-off from members of the public, who gave information about the farm, through the DCI toll Free line.
The suspects have been placed under police custody and they will be arraigned in court.
Following the incident the DCI has stated that further investigations will be carried out to bring to book all parties involved in the illegal activity.
Under the Kenyan law, Use and growing of marijuana is illegal.
Various quarters among them legislators have been pushing for legalization of bhang farming and usage for medicinal purposes.
