TSC condemns attack on teachers by students, calls for mentorship

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has come out to condemn the attack on teachers by students and called out for mentorship to end the menace.
Early this week, one teacher by the name Edwin Mokaya, sustained deep injuries in the forehead after a Form 3 student from Kisii High School attacked him. The student is said to have attacked the teacher after he refused to be punished for reporting late to class.
The student is alleged to have taken a knife and stabbed the teacher causing him injuries in the head.
The second teacher Elvis Maoto incurred injuries in the wrist when he tried to prevent the student from attacking Mokaya.
The teachers were rushed to Ram Hospital in Kisii where they are receiving treatment.
In another incident, a Form two student from Mokwerero Secondary School was arrested over an alleged plot to attack a teacher with a machete.
The teacher was rescued by colleagues before the student made good of his threats. The motive, however, remains unknown.
The student was arrested and police reports indicate that his target was the school’s principal.
Following the two recent incidents, the Teachers Service Commission TSC has called on Kenyans to help mentor students.
“TSC regrets the recent attacks on our teachers by the learners in Kisii and the attempted attack by another student in Mokwerero Sec School in Nyamira County. Let’s all Kenyans of goodwill help mentor our children positively” TSC stated.

The reopening of schools after closure for almost a year has seen cases of indiscipline among students soar.
