Gospel Rapper Juliani Threatens To Sue Jubilee Party Over Use Of His Song To Promote BBI

Gospel rapper and “Utawala” hit maker Julius Owino Ooko popularly known as Juliani has threatened to Sue Jubilee party for using His Song ‘Utawala’ in a Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) promotion video without seeking his consent.
The artist has since served the ruling party with a demand letter through his lawyer Katee David and dared to take the party to court in 72 hours should they not respond. In the letter Juliani has compelled  the ruling party to admit liability for infringement of intellectual property rights.
“There is alot people can take away from me, i won’t flinch. but you can’t take away, hijack my thoughts and my voice. twist it to fit your narrative.” Juliani wrote on his twitter handle.
“We also demand on behalf of our client that you admit liability for infringement of intellectual property rights in writing within the next 72 hours so that we can further engage you on quantum, should you chose to ignore this letter, we have unequivocal instructions from our client to institute mandatory legal proceedings against your party for damages both general and specific in a court of law,” the letter reads in part.

He also reminds the party of the proposals in the BBI report which proposes the establishment of the  Office of the Ombudsman of the Judiciary which shall play the important oversight role and receive complaints from the members of the public against judicial officers. According to the letter served by his lawyer, the party’s promotional video goes against BBI itself, for it is denying the artist his right to earn a honest living.
He also argued that by using his work, Juliani’s reputation to the public as well as his earning will be negatively affected in the future.
In the purported video at the centre of dispute that Julian shared its link on twitter, it shows the BBI promotional video which has Juliani’s ‘Utawala’ song playing in the background.
